Part:BBa_K2171002
MASH - osmotic stress protein from tardigrade
Mitochondrial abundant heat soluble protein (MAHS) - osmotic stress protein from tardigrade with N-terminal signal peptide that targets the protein to the mitochondria. This part is composed of K731500 (lacI-lacIq and a tac promoter) followed by a CDS of MASH optimized for expression in E. coli. MAHS protein sequence was taken from UniProtKB: A0A0E4FH01 (A0A0E4FH01_9BILA). The mitochondrial targeting signal (composed by 30 AA at N-terminus: MSRYLLRDVQAVLRGVRKVAESSLKLETEK) was removed and the remaining part of the sequence was codon optimized for bacterial expression.

Usage and Biology
This part was used by iGEM Bulgaria 2016 team in attempt to create genetic construct that could allow for the conversion of any microorganism into a resistant-towards-desiccation-and-temperature-stress type.
